Uganda Natural (Kasitu)

As you know we've been blown away by all the unique flavours coming out of Ugandan coffee and we have decided that, given the coffee industry shenanigans at present, we will share as many as we can! This super fruity natural is from Kasitu region - not too far away from the Kalingwe region where the now legendary Bukonzo emanates - and we're loving all the bold, juicy flavors of this, with blood orange coming to the fore; a touch tropical too, with nougat stone fruits towards the end.

We sourced this coffee with the help of Agri Evolve, who through their local buying centre and coffee station work hard to help Ugandan farmers and their communities thrive. For this coffee, cherries were picked when fully ripe and transported down to the Agri Evolve Coffee Station in the valley. After careful grading, the cherries were sun-dried for about 3 weeks before hulling, more grading, cleaning and bagging. 

Process: By collecting the cherry rather than as processed green bean, the value added to their coffee is huge, and it shows! It also adds incentive to the farmers when picking and selecting ripe coffees as they can achieve higher prices – an important part of the Salford Roasters story.
